Adults are humans or animals who have completed their development. In the human context adults have significance that is shaped by moral and social concepts. Contrary to the term "minor" as well as "non-adult", a legal-age adult is an individual who has achieved the age of majority. They are thought to be to be responsible, independent and competent. They are also known as "majors" They can also be said as having reached the age of adulthood. The age for achieving legal adulthood is 18, but the definition can vary based on laws, countries as well as the stage of psychological development.

When it comes to the life span of an individual adulthood is the age when a person attains full physical and intellectual maturity. Typically, the age of adulthood is around the age of 21, or 20. The typical middle-age begins around 40 years old, and is followed by around 60. The three main stages of adulthood are the early years (from mid-30s to late-60s) and middle adulthood, from the mid-30s through late-60s, and finally adulthood (mid-60s up to death). As we enter the initial stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40), our bodies are at their peak of maturity although our height and weight might increase a bit. Physical capabilities peak when we are young adults. This includes muscle strength, reflex time, sensitivities, and functioning of the heart.

Audra is the project manager of our Water Quality Division's efforts related to the Long Island Sound Study, wetlands.
