Katarina Witt first began to skate as early as age 5 years. It was her chance to demonstrate her talent and gain entry into a Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted kids. The school where she was enrolled, she was introduced to her coach Jutta Muler. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Following that, she started dominating the sport with her elegance and grace. Olympic triumph at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' gold medal in figure skating following an extremely close contest. In a more competitive competition, afterward, she was awarded the medal. The free skater lost, but she won the gold medal for the figures that were compulsory and her short programme. Witt became the first female to win in both the men's and women's figure-skating competitions since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt had amazing success as an acting career, however, she returned to figure skating to participate in the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Though she did not take home a medal, the young woman impressed her spectators despite finishing seventh. Witt was elected to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in 1995.
